Please consider the environment before you print this e-mail.

It was one of those mails that immediately screamed the word SCAM! in my head but was worded in such a way that I had to re-read it properly to really register what was going on. Their 'call to action', based on the notion that a process was already underway, is rather crafty and the website they link to is a plausible fake, but ultimately, it is just neatly channeled spam.

Search for their phone number and you'll see a bunch of other "companies" doing the same thing. Search for random sentences from the above and you'll find a whole bunch of other bloggers who have been victim to the same or similar attacks. If you get one like this, please hurry up and ignore this domain registration scam.

And another one....

To whom it may concern: 2009-9-25

We are a domain name registration service company in Asia,

Last week we received a formal application submited by Peter Lee who wanted to use the keyword "BKKPAGES" to register the Internet Brand and with suffix such as .cn /.com.cn /.net.cn/.hk/ .asia/ domain names.

After our initial examination, we found that these domain names to be applied for registration are same as your domain name and trademark. If you think that these domain names to be regisrated would produce possible dispute with you or effect your current businesss, you would contact us as soon as possible by Fax ,Telephone or Email to protect and register related domains names , otherwise we have to approve his regisration application without your any reply in the next 5 working days.

Yours sincerely

Just a common scam.

I'm a Chinese and I'm regret to see that .
Actually,it's so easy to register a cn domain with seconds .
And , google to buy google.cn and costs about 1000000 USD .

shiny wrote on 28th November 2009

To clarify, Shiny, my wife is half-Chinese so this definitely isn't a race issue. But yes, it is sad these things happen.

@Craig: yes, this may well be "just" a common scam, but if someone finds this page by googling for it (as you did) and it saves them worry or cash, that's no bad thing.

Jon Combe wrote on 28th November 2009

Yeah, I get these constantly ( I own a of of domains) plus I have to explain the scam to my clients who forward these email to me as well.
